Military Spouse of The Year
Truly great friends are
hard to find, difficult to leave &
impossible to forget.
Military Spouse Of The Year is happening and I am nominating one of the strongest and inspirational woman I know. MSOY honors military spouses from all branches of service. More than a million military spouses support and maintain the home front while their service members defend this great nation. The MSOY award recognizes military spouses’ important contributions and unwavering commitment to the military community and our country.
Meet my best friend, my soul sister:
It is so true that God puts certain people in our lives for a reason. He has a specific plan and purpose on how we cross paths and how they become an intricate part of the plan he has for us. It’s even truer when you become an Army spouse, supporting our soldiers together, moving from one another to holding one another up through deployments, homecomings and sometimes… death.
I have developed amazing, military friendships all over the world. But, there is one particular woman I want to share with you all. This woman has been my mentor as a brand new Army wife, whom became my best friend to my rock when I lost my husband in Afghanistan in 2011 and this is why I nominate her as Military Spouse of the Year.
Lisa Pratt is an amazing wife, mother and most of all artist/singer who works with CAMMO. CAMMO is the Center for American Military Music Opportunities. CAMMO and Lisa work together using music in therapy and rehabilitation across all branches for wounded warriors, veterans and even gold star family members, like myself.
In April of 2014 I wrote a song with CAMMO, “Flowers on a Stone” and somehow Lisa was chosen to sing my song with the Military Spouse Choir (which is a part of CAMMO), not knowing that I was the one that wrote it. It is my story and what the gold star means to me … but, it’s not the song that is important. It is what happened to song and the story it brings with it… two women who met for the first time one summer day in Texas in August 2011, thinking that we would live a normal Army life until my life changed.
Lisa didn’t know me that well and after the call I made to her on October 9, 2011 she dropped everything to pick me up off the floor to help get me through my darkest days and having our friendship/sisterhood grow.
The song isn’t important. It’s Lisa. Lisa unselfishly uses her talents with CAMMO to help those broken, needing extra encouragement and forever making the world a better place. Music just isn’t about putting words out there that sound good… it’s using beats, rhythm and emotion to tell one’s story to get them through their darkest moments. Lisa is making a difference in so many military lives and I will forever be thankful for the difference she made in my life. This.
This is why I nominate her for Military Spouse of the Year. Please click the link below to vote!
